Car Accident

How chiropractic helped Sam with neck pain and headaches from a car accident

Sam’s Story

Here’s a story you might like to know about. It’s a true story, but Sam is not a patient at this office.

Sam, a 43-year-old man, was injured in an automobile accident, during which his car was rear-ended by another vehicle. This happens all the time to people, but most people don’t take it seriously.

Sam was taken to an emergency room by ambulance, (it was a terrible accident) complaining of neck and mid back pain. The X-rays showed no fractures, so what do you think the hospital did? Yes, Sam was released.

The next day Sam visited his medical doctor because the stiffness in his neck was getting worse and he had a persistent headache. This happens a lot with auto accident victims and you may have had similar symptoms if you’ve been hit or even bumped from behind. The medical doctor talked to Sam, listened to his story, then prescribed pain medication and suggested that Sam consult with his chiropractor.

Sam's chiropractor determined that the increasing stiffness in his neck was due to a soft-tissue injury resulting from the whiplash of the accident. His chiropractor explained that injuries of this type can take two months or more to heal and stabilize, but with treatment and some good home self-care by Sam, the discomfort, stiffness, tightness, and pain might be diminished within a week or so. The initial goal was to increase Sam's comfort and reduce his inflammation.

The chiropractor applied some physical therapy to the neck muscles and soft tissues and Sam applied hot and cold pads at home. The chiropractor also used gentle adjustments to mobilize and realign the cervical and thoracic spine. Sam liked how he felt.

After three treatments in the first week, Sam's discomfort level diminished by 80% and his headaches were gone. After a month, Sam's examination findings showed marked improvement in his range of spinal motion, plus he reported that he could go about his daily activities without aggravating his injury. After ten weeks, Sam could hardly remember the trouble he had experienced from his accident.

If you’re ever in an accident, get medical care if you need it, then make sure you call this office. It’s important. The longer you wait, the longer it takes to get you back to normal. DON’T WAIT CALL TODAY!
